Security Sociability is a posting point for all things related to the security dwellings, research, and happenings of SecBarbie (to be explained later) and the various people in the Information Security, Research, and Auditing scene. Not all posts can be guaranteed to be 100% Security related, but minimally I do ensure some resemblance of twisted wit to be included.

Any and all opinions expressed in this blog are sole responsibility of the blog author and in no way express the opinions and perspective of any employer.

So what’s with Security Barbie anyway?

The whole SecBarbie name started out at a SANS conference in San Diego around 2003. It was a joke, or at least I hope so, that was about the fact that I was the only female under the age of 35 in the class at the time that, well, had Barbie Blonde hair. This ended up transcending to a client site that I was at while auditing where the security person remembered me from the conference, and the name got passed around the financial services auditing community and people started only remembering me as ‘SecBarbie’ rather then my real name at conferences.

So what else?

I’m into all things Apple and Macintosh Security related, and currently am working on OS X Reversing projects. OS X is my passion, and seeing the massive acceptance of the platforms in corporate environments invigorates, excites, and petrifies me all at once! Not enough people have a solid understanding of security on the platform and cross-platform security integration yet. We have a long way to go….

I’m a geek at heart, been doing the stuff since I was 7. I’ve run multiple BBS’s, been a computer fanatic for years, and worked lots IT jobs from Helpdesk to Software Engineer, Consultant to Security Architect, and to my current role.  I have soo much left to learn, but I love sitting and talking tech over a nice bottle of wine. Aside from the techie parts of my life, I’m a musician who plays a vast number of instruments (Guitar, Piano, Bass Guitar, Saxophone, French Horn, Flute, Drums, etc.), I dabble in photography, and I also enjoy motorcycling and road-racing, as well as a few other activities that you just have to know me to figure out!
